What I saw.... | #1 | ||

Players that stood out:
Lenny Daniels: Aggressive around the basket. Long and lean but looks like a good rebounder. Showed some good post moves. Kevin Menner: Plays much like Lenny Daniels. Work mostly in the paint. Both guys play hard. Willie Galick: Beast!! He is ready to go and will be our go to big man. Tony O: This guy is amazing....He is our Dennis Rodman. Rebounding machine and good defense. PG: Mark Hill, Vinnie McGhee and Dathan Lyles: Didnt show much...but it was clear Mark Hill played more like a starting PG. The Rest: Michael Lizzaraga: Cut down on In and Out. Looks faster and more mobile but still cant jump. Kenny Daniels: Not in Beast mode yet. He better show up quick or Menner and Daniel will take some of his minutes. Rashuan McLemore: Seemed to have a nice stroke but didnt take many shots Raymond Cody: Hestitate to shoot when he had the open looks. Therin Taylor: I count on him being our defense stopper X. Crawford: DNP Vincent Cordell: Saw him in the hall, he said he was sick so didnt play Aaron Hansen: played 3 minutes... Is he a walk on? Overall, the team looks look but need to cut down on unforced errors. Top recruits Kevin Menner and Lenny Daniels are excellent pick ups. Tony O needs to start!! Our size will be an issue in non conference play but should do fine in Big West. Prediction: Ugly non conference record. Top 3 finish in Big West. This team is built to beat Long Beach!! Dont be surprise if we win another title. Three peat!!! M88 calls it right here on csunhoops.com! |

Thanks for the analysis M88. It's good to read a different perspective. Imo it will take several games for the team gel and find their roles, but I too saw
promise.
Turnovers always happen early when new players are introduced to CSUN's system. A pleasant surprise was 20 asst. and 4 starters with double figures. There were 20 t/o's but only 3 by the PG's who collectively had 7 assist. 12 players had double digit minutes so the coaches will have plenty of video on those players to evaluate. One last thing, the student side of the Dome was near capacity

Purdue game | #4 | ||

Will be a good indicator of the quality of the 2010 Matadors. Why Kenny Daniels did not start?

This is one of those great experiences which the Matadors can draw upon later. And hopefully by March, we will be of the caliber we were last March. We do have some good depth this year and it's amazing what kind of character the kids had last year when our two best scorers couldn't play and the circumstances surrounding both those situations. A beat down won't at all tell us whether we're good or not. And remember the season where we beat SC? I don't think we did that well the rest of the way (could be wrong, memory is fuzzy). The point is, these early season OOC games, esp. for a team with so many new players like us in a system that traditionally takes all season to learn, probably don't indicate that much.

DonLe,
I think it can still be a good indicator. We OUTPLAYED stanford last year and if it wasn't for the refs called fouls on 7 straight possessions when we took the lead and getting them on the free throw line, we win that game. We hung close with New Mexico, we flew to the east coast and battled two solid teams in Rider and Drexel. Tell me you didn't think right after Kenny Daniels dunk at the end of the first half against UCLA, he was going to break out. Against Purdue Jujuan Johnson and Robbie Hummell are inside out guys, which could mean that it'll keep Lenny and Willie on the floor and we can see what they are made of. Our tough assignment is gonna be Etwain Moore, i guess McClemore and Kenny are gonan guard him. If we can handle him, we might have a shot to sneak up on them. There backup big man Green is 6'6, so they don't have much size outside of Johnson (6'9) and Hummel (6'
