LSU Two National Championships. 2000 and 2009. Five CWS appearance 2000, 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009 Oregon St. Back to Back NC's 06 and 07 Three CWS appearance 04,06, 07 CSF One NC, 04 Six CWS 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009 Miami One NC 2001. Five CWS 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2008 Rice National title in '03. Five CWS apps in '02, '03, '06, '07 and '08. If Texas wins tonight, no question they are the team of the decade. Member Posts: 3040 06/24/09 8:57 PM	Even though Texas lost tonight, I still think they are the team of the decade. Two NC, 2 nd place finishes, 6 CWS apps. OSU's back to back NC is certainly impressive but only 3 CWS apps in the decade, brings them to #3. LSU 2 NC's though 8 years apart but by two different coaches. 5 CWS apps. #2. CSF, Miami and Rice of course belong in the top 5-6 for team of the decade. I would include Stanford, in the top 10, even if they didn't win a NC, 5 CWS apps, 1 or 2 second place finishes.

Stanford would be the best program without a title in the decade with five CWS apps although North Carolina would be in that particular conversation with four straight trips and two runner-up finishes. Here are the teams with multiple trips to Omaha who didn't win a national title this decade besides Stanford and North Carolina. Teams are listed in order of most recent appearance in their group with the same number of trips: Georgia 4 ASU 3 Clemson 3 Nebraska 3 South Carolina 3 Arkansas 2 FreeShoesU 2 Georgia Tech 2 Tennessee 2 Tulane 2 USC 2

Stanford finished 2nd, 3 times during the decade, 2 of those times, the one game championship format was in place, so they might have won a NC if the current 3 game format was in place. Their 2000-2003 CWS run, was part of a 5 year run to the CWS, making it in 1999. Stanford also had to go through the tough Western regionals to make the CWS. I believe Stanford beat CSF twice to make it to the CWS, 08 for sure and maybe 02. UNC, 4 straight CWS 06-09. 2 runner up finishes.

Member Posts: 729 06/26/09 11:26 AM	As a little more supporting evidence, I ran the ISRs for the decade, which Boyd Nation's site lets you do: 1) CSUF 2) Rice 3) ASU 4) Texas 5) Stanford 6) Florida St 7) LSU 8) Long Beach 9) South Carolina 10) Nebraska Personally, I definitely lend more weight to evaluation of championships won and Omaha appearances, as that's what really matters, especially if you are talking about the best of the best. But I like the ISRs as a secondary criterion: it provides a view of who has won more games against better teams year after year, and it provides a hint as to who has had less truly bad seasons. Of the other teams that you named, but did not make this Top 10, there's Oregon St. at #13, Miami at #15 and North Carolina at #17. Here's my Top 10: 1) Texas 2) LSU 3) CSUF 4) Rice 5) Oregon St. 6) Stanford 7) ASU 8) Miami 9) North Carolina 10) Nebraska Oregon State's the oddball one... the two national titles can't be denied, but the resume is a little thin otherwise. And. I guess there's not a real clear-cut #10 (South Carolina, Florida St. Georgia). For what it's worth... UCI and Long Beach... probably about Top 30 for the decade, give or take... UCI harder to rate due to incomplete record.

Member Posts: 3044 06/26/09 12:41 PM	It's all about winning the NC. Oregon St is #3 due to their back to back NC's. Yes, they only made 3 CWS but they won two of them. CSF was 1 for 6. CSF is 4th, Rice if 5th. Miami 6th, Stanford 7th, UNC 8th, ASU 9th, and Georgia 10th. You could switch ASU and UGa without too much disagreement but I give ASU based on them getting out of the west to make it to the CWS and they got further in their trips to CWS.

You can't compare how many times teams went to the CWS this decade because with the SR era, it is "easier" to make it to the CWS. The old format was much tougher. Now I wouldn't say LB is done, but CP hasn't done jack in terms of making the CWS, so do something before talking. At least LB made the SR round this decade. Has CP?

CP finally makes a regional and now they can make it to Omaha but LB is done because they had one poor year? The Dirtbags did make the regional the year before but lost a ton of players due to draft and graduation so they did have a rebuilding year. CP, you have too short a memory because LB had a powerhouse team in 2008 but underperformed against Fresno State, the eventual CWS winner. Next year, the Dirtbags will be back and fighting for national recognition again. You can bet on that. LB has too much history and support to struggle more than a year at a time. Before you go pissing on LB, know that LB and Fullerton are the reason the BW has a name in college baseball.

They had some very good teams that should have went to the CWS. I believe they only made 2 SR's and missed the regionals 2 times this decade. While it maybe hard to imagine LB missing the regionals two straight years, it wouldn't shock me if they did. But you're right for a CP fan to start talking $@$$ about another BW program is stupid.

Here are the cumulative ISR's from '99-'09: http://www.boydsworld.com/cgi/isr.pl?startmonth=1&startday=01&startyear=1999&endmonth=6&endday=30&endyear=2009&submit=Calculate+ISR%27s The teams that haven't gone from '99-'09 are: Long Beach 8 Ole Miss 22 P'dine 24 Oklahoma 28 Washington 30 Riverside 32 and most teams from 33 on. Long Beach has gone to two super regionals ('03 and '04 - Weaver's last two seasons) and didn't play in regionals in '00, '06 and '09. Long Beach has been eliminated at home the last four times they have been in the post-season - '04 by Arizona in the super regional, '05 when USC beat P'dine in the regional final, '07 when UCLA beat them in the regional final and '08 when Fresno beat USD in the regional final. Long Beach will be much better next season and are likely to be a regional team. They return all of their position players and the player who probably would have been their best hitter last season was a redshirt (Miami transfer Terdoslavich). They lose Wilk but return their other two SP's Thompson and Gagnon, who are high upside guys with poor results thus far. They loser closer Ruiz but the bullpen is usually the easiest part of a team to rebuild.

Despite losing the CWS to LSU this season, the Longhorns were able to win the National Championship twice this decade and appeared in the title game a couple more times. How the Point System Works 5 Points for making a regional 15 Points for making a Super Regional 25 Points for making the CWS 30 Points for making Title Game 40 Points for winning CWS Bonus Points 5 For being a #1 seed in a regional 10 For being a top 8 National Seed 15 For being the Nation's #1 overall seed Example: LSU Earned 50 points this year. 40 for a national championship and 10 for being a national top 8 seed. Rankings 1. Texas 280 Points-2 National Championships and 10 Regionals for the Horns 2. Cal State Fullerton 270 Points- The Titans won the 04 NC and had 6 CWS appearances 3. Rice 265 Points- Rice won the 03 NC and had 10 Regional Appearances 4. LSU 250 Points- LSU won 2 national championships this decade, but also missed the postseason in 06 and 07 4. Miami 250 Points- The 2001 NC and 10 regionals put the Canes in the top 5 6. Florida State 230 Points- FSU is the highest ranked program without a NC 7. Stanford 220 Points- The Cardinal appeared in a couple National Championship Games this decade, but failed to win a NC 8. South Carolina 195 Points- 10 Regional appearances and 3 CWS appearances put the Gamecocks in the top 10 9. Clemson 190 Points- The Tigers appeared in 3 CWS and 9 regionals 10. North Carolina 180 Points- 4 straight CWS Appearances and 2 NC Game Appearances for the Heels 10. Georgia Tech 180 Points- The Jackets only missed on 1 regional this decade and had 2 CWS Appearances 12. Arizona State 175 Points- ASU is the 2nd highest ranked PAC 10 school with 3 CWS Appearances and 10 Regional Appearances 13. Nebraska 160 Points- Despite missing 2 regionals, the Huskers are in the top 15 14. Georgia 150 Points- A 2008 NC Game Appearance and 4 CWS appearances highlight the Dawgs' decade 15. Oregon State 130 Points- Back to back National Championships put the Beavers at #15 16. Tulane 115 Points- Tulane made it to 2 CWS' this decade 16. LSU- The Giant slept for a few years, but its awake again 2. Cal State Fullerton- The Titans continue to be the best in the west 3. Texas- Pick any decade and the Horns are near the top 4. South Carolina- The best program, facilities, coach, and fans in the SEC East 5. Miami- Only a matter of time before Miami wins another NC 6. Arizona State- This program has always been at the top 7. North Carolina- A new facility and a fantastic coach will keep UNC near the top 8. Arkansas- What kind of crowds will Baum have 10 years from now? 9. Rice- Houston, TX has too much talent for this program to go away 10. UC Irvine- The program was dead for near a decade, but has made a quick impact since coming back 11. Florida State- Will Mike Martin ever get his national championship? 12. Clemson- The Tigers have made 21 of the last 22 regionals 13. Stanford- The program slipped a little in the late part of this decade, but is still very strong 14. Mississippi State- Cohen will take this program back where it belongs 15. East Carolina- The Pirates just missed our top 20 list, they won't in the next decade 16. Oregon State- Back to back NCs aren't likely again, but OSU will continue to be strong 17. Florida- Too much talent in the Sunshine State to keep the Gators down 18. Coastal Carolina- The Myrtle Beach area is a great place to recruit and draw in recruits. This program is bound to reach the CWS soon 19. Texas A&M- The Aggies haven't been to Omaha since 1999, that won't be a problem in the next decade 20. Ole Miss- One of the best settings in college baseball will continue to draw in top recruits for Bianco's program.

Member Posts: 3094 07/09/09 12:54 AM	How did they get 270 for CSF 40 NC 150 6 CWS x 25 50 10 regionals x 5 points. That's 240 right there. I think CSF made 6 or 7 SR's. That is at least 90 points right there and I haven't even counted the bonus points.

Member Posts: 1019 07/09/09 7:46 AM	My guess is they don't double count points in those categories so the most points you get in a season is 40 before the bonus points kick in for the second category. Fullerton would only get 40 points for winning the national title in 2004. 125 points in the other five CWS seasons (25 x 5) for 165 total in the six CWS seasons. 30 in the two super regional seasons ('05, '08) and 10 in the two regional seasons ('00 and '02). 205 points total. In the bonus points category, Fullerton was the overall #1 seed once (15 points in '01) and a national seed five other times (50 points) for 65 bonus points. 270 points between the two categories.
