Ok we have talked about such efforts in the past. But how about we try to strike the iron while the iron is hot. Have a membership fee of $25 a year (or
other rates for people who can give more) and try to help raise money for the men's bball program (like the titan hoops club). I live in DC and
wouldn't be able to really see any benefits and don't have much money but even I'd do what I can to help. Get the club as an official club with
the CSUN Alumni Association. M88....Oldschool...perspixx....all you alumn that still live in the area and can attend CSUN games, what do you all think?

...what'd ya expect from Jay Leno's fav 99 cents store? savignon of course, not the northie's two-buck chuck sauvignon. Now back to YD's initiative: The legal club or organization has to be clearly defined and its governing board must have the passion for Matadors Hoops in words and in deeds.

Get this group going before the banquet. That way you have the people you are targeting.
Also make sure the SID office creates a link to the club, on the CSN website.

We have significant interest on this board to know we could raise hundreds of dollars on day 1 just by membership fee's. We got our strategy of basically
directly asking coach what he wants for the program to see how we can help. I think KD and Oldschool and good front people to start this effort and I've
called Alan Z to see if he can join them in getting this off the ground. If we can get Alan Z, Oldschool, whoever oldschool wants to bring with him, and KD to
sit down with Coach or the AD then we can get this off the ground. Once they talk about the idea, make sure the athletic department will actually be ACTIVE in
promoting this (as oldschool said - no matter how loyal or active we are we can't do this without some effort given back to us by the department), we can
start thinking about some of the items LN mentioned (getting a board to run the club, get a constitution/club guidelines, set membership fee's ect...).
So we have a general idea, the interest, someone willing to lead this effort on the ground (oldschool), and can committ to making sure we ask the coach directly what he wants so we can actually set goals for ourselves and have a specific ask as we try to raise money. I think we have taken the first steps to get this off the ground now we just need to hear back from oldschool about when he will have the meeting and then see if athletics is willing to support this idea or is going to just see this as extra work for them. Let's hope with the momentum of the tourney and the fact that we are talking about raising money for the program that they bite and decide to play ball. |

REAL CHANCE FOR MATADOR HOOPS CLUB | #28 | ||
|
guys,
through my public relations org on campus, i am going to do my best to make this a reality. a local PR firm that has come to present to us, including a CSUN grad, has had the idea to create a PR plan for the mens basketball program here at csun. over the summer we will be creating a strategy to maximize attendance at games, as well as raise awareness and spirit for the program on campus. we will begin our meetings later this month and work through the summer, with the goal of having our plan completed for the athletics department before school starts. i will bring this "mataclub" to the table and see what the reactions are. if one of you guys wants to write an official proposal, with specifics on membership, benefits, terms, etc. and give it to me to present, that would be awesome. thanks! -stretch

My daughter has played hoops for over 6 years at a rec center less than 10 miles from CSUN. In all that time, the only poster or flyer for CSUN sports are the
ones that I put up. I would estimate there are over 300 kids that play hoops there. The UCLA girls team did a clinic there once and the gym was packed. I
think it would help if the teams reached out to the community a little bit more, not just wait for them to appear at the Matadome.

They are willing to take the first steps and set up some meetings. This post was basically to get some ideas going and see if there were interest. I think we
got some good ideas and clearly people are willing to donate. We can let this thread die for now and let those guys work it over the next two months. By the
end of the semester we should have another thread started with updates and a more solid plan/foundation. I feel really good about these guys leading the
effort and it looks like this is actually going to happen. Anyway we can step back for a bit and let that group start moving some things.

Wait two months? What happened to striking when the fire is hot? I understand people maybe busy with other things and you want to present a good solid plan
to Bras. But damn it shouldn't take two months to get this off the ground.
Not sure when the banquet is, but if it is late April, you guys should have something worked out by then to present to fans at the banquet.
