Cal Poly is going to be a tougher W for teams this year I predict. If you look back at last year the one thing you could count on from them every game is very
poor shot selection (chaz t., lorenzo k.) and very bad defense. Coach is stressing much better shot selection and they're playing that same zone when
Callero was at Seattle. Teams that can't shoot may struggle, and there's a fair share of not so good shooting teams in the BW this year.

Matadors Third? | #2 | ||

I don't think the Matadors will finish that high...6th or 7th is more like it.

From the same article...
Anderson (LBS) Austin (UCR) Harden (UCD) Johnson (UCSB) Payne (UCD) Wise (UCI) The only surprise, and it's a minor one, is Johnson. Not that he doesn't have credentials, but it is unusual to see a player tabbed that has not played for his team yet. Edit: no seniors on this team. |

i would have had Robinson instead of Johnson. | #4

As a freshman, Robinson stepped up bigtime in league games. Didn't he lead, or come close to leading, the league in rebounding for league games only?
And average some 13 pts. in league games?

I wish the Coaches still had a poll. It'd be interesting to see how their picks would differ (or not) from the media.

Most early publications agreed with you Channelcats. I believe the loss of key players last season not derailing the Dor's is the reason for their high placement now. |

I would have put TJ on instead of Johnson. Orlando was the best player on a dreadful team, he should have to prove himself at UCSB first!

With Austin transferring in from SC and doing so well and most expecting great things from former Irish G Joe Harden....the year of the Div. I transfer. If I wasn't an SB homer, I'd put TJ ahead too. |

I'd put Streeter over Payne | #9
|
He led the BW in AS/TO ratio(ok, Payne was 2nd), and made over 42% of his 3 pt shots.

Robinson was 2nd in rebounding in conference play with 7.8 rebs a game. Overall, Robinson was 7th with 6.2 rebs a game.

with two UCD players on the first team, it's hard to imagine the same pollsters voting for UCD finishing 6th.
A cynic is someone who knows the price of everything, and the value of nothing.

My sentiments exactly! CSUN has no players listed, yet picked third. If they finish that high or better (and I believe they will) the Dor's will have a first team selection. I'm starting to worry about how good CSF might be. Being picked so low will surely motivate them. |

Robinson | #14 | ||
|
Among returning players, and using the stats for conference games only (the fairest way since there is considerable difference in SOS and because the all BW
team is based on play in league games), Robinson ranked #5 in Points per Game, #1 in rebounds per game, and #1 in FG %. Further, he was not even a starter
until LB's 8th conference game of the season. Robinson IS one of the 6 best players in the league.

The first team rankings don't always tell you much about the strength of a team. UOP finished with no first team players last year but was quite nearly
the conference champion.

Your comment made NO sense, but I will reply anyway. Last year I did not post that I thought Austin should be a Pre-season pick in the Big West. I just said
Austin was gonna be one of the best players when he became eligible. Boy was I off base! As for johnson - he had a good frosh year - BUT - so did TJ and he did
it in the Big West-so i believe he should get the recognition. Now as far as my man-crush-I support UCR and also have a crush on Larry G. - but I also have
said plenty of Very positive things about other players on many teams. Here are a few of my favorites-Streeter, Payne, J. Johnson, Nunnally, T.J., Anderson,
Wise... Don't be a hater-be a congratulator!!!!
