Compliments of BL from the Beachboard. How in the hell are these conferences getting picked above us? Until a team steps up and becomes the face of this conference get use to it.

This analysis on Rivals puts the BWC at #21 in men's hoops. Where would you put them?
I think #21 is too low, but not by a huge margin. The fact that our conference rep in the NCAA tourney was a 15 seed probably didn't help. |

Kyle Richardson as newcomer of the year!? Come on. The guy might end up being a good player but I don't foresee him as an impact player right away. I would
think the newcomer of the year would be Vinnie McGhee, Orlando Johnson, or Larry Gurganious who all have prior D1 experience. Also, if Cal Poly comes in last
place like everyone is predicting, they shouldn't have a 2nd team all conference player. I don't care how good a player is. If he can't keep his
team out of the cellar, he doesn't deserve all-conference honors. CSUN and UOP are conspicuously absent from first or second team all-conference
predictions.

As a LB fan, I would have to agree that Orlando Johnson, McGhee and Gurganious all look to have a greater impact immediately than Richardson. And since OJ was
picked all BW 2nd team and KR isn't listed on the all BW teams, that the preview did too, and that by new-comer of the year they must mean Frosh of the
Year, and that I could buy into.

Dino, I don't believe ANY of the 1st team or 2nd all conference selections listed there could keep Cal Poly out of the cellar. They're that far behind
the rest of us right now. I believe it's possible for a player to make 2nd team for a last place squad. Just not Keeler.
The guy had a small handful of good games-Fullerton was one of them-and the rest of the time shot the ball poorly. Personally, I think Streeter is getting short-changed on a lot of these articles. It's hard to find a young PG with both the shooting and passing skills he possesses. I'd agree about Orlando Johnson as newcomer of the year, because he has scoring and rebounding skills. Gurganious started against us in '07 and didn't do much other than get in foul trouble. |

I think you have hit the nail on the head. These are pre-season rankings based on history and not much knowledge. I can see Richardson being Freshman of the
Year, but not newcomer. There is a difference and the Rivals writer failed to make that difference. Besides it doesn't matter until the last game is
played and the real results are in. Rivals also has an East of the Rockies bias and our tournament record for the last few years has been atrocious. The
misisng plyers from CSUN and CSUF etc are because of all the new players they have and the writer doesn't know much about them. Take it all with a grain
of salt. I never pay attention to the preseason foibles.

I was a little shocked to see Gerard Anderson as a second team pick and Jacque Streeter ignored. I think they have it backwards. As far as picking Fullerton
eighth, that's fine with me. Pick us ninth. These predictions mean nothing and I would love for Fullerton to surprise people. In fact, it's difficult
to figure how Fullerton will do. We have a number of returning starters but don't be surprised if Streeter is the only one who actually starts. With so
many new people, it's hard to tell how we'll do. My guess is that we're a a year away. But we'll see.

The thing that bugs me is that I think the coaches pretty much do all conference teams based on points scored and nothing else.
For how little we've done and what little we do out of conference, I'm fine with #21. |

Burlison in his blog said that Richardson could have as much long term promise as any 49er in a long time (He does have a long wingspan, excellent strength
already at 235 lbs., and potential for a great interior game.). But that being said, the publication touting him as newcomer of the year must have only
considered freshmen. Orlando Johnson is a stud, and McGhee is just the next level down.

CSUF will be a good team this year because of Streeter. Take him out of the lineup and it is not the same team The problem with CSUF and the writers is they
are a unknown at this time. That may change as the season progresses. CSUF, UCI, CSUN, UOP and Davis all fall into that category.

I don't think anyone (probably including the coaches) as to how Fullerton is going to do this year. My only believe is that we have most of the same guys
from last year's starting, we're in trouble. If not, we'll see. Most likely we're a year away.

CSUF may always be a year away as long as Long Beach brings in players the caliber of Shepard, Boykins and Thomas, the 2010 recruiting class so far, every
year. I think the Titans will come together and make a run this year. I'm more optimistic than you.
