Member Posts: 5 09/16/09 4:31 PM	Tags : None Santa Barbara News-Press broke the story today that 2010 G Troy Leaf from Foothills Christian HS in El Cajon has committed to play for the UCSB Gauchos. Leaf was formerly committed to play for San Diego State, but he and his family grew uncomfortable with the situation at SDSU. Apparently UNLV and Nevada-Reno offered him while Stanford, Gonzaga, and others inquired about him after he decided to change direction, but he had already established a relationship with UCSB assistant Brad Holland from when Holland was the HC at USD. Leaf had been on UCSB's campus while still committed to San Diego State, attending the UCSB-North Carolina game while accompanying teammate Jvonte Brooks on a visit. After changing his mind Leaf decided that UCSB was the place for him. This link has a bunch of info on Leaf. Averaged 26pts, 6.5rbs, 4.6ast. He was a First Team All CIFSD selection, the All-State Junior Basketball Player of the Year by CalHiSports, and he is on the Top 10 All-Time scoring list for the CIFSD Section with another year to play. Scouts, Inc. described him as: "deceptively bouncy", and as "one of the most prolific shooters/scorers in the West," and as a "relentless competitor." Last Edited By: SD23 09/16/09 4:35 PM. UC Davis with Tiffin, UCI with Mulloy and now UCSB has added another guard in Leaf to go with previous 2010 gaurd commttment from Kyle Boswell. Not to mention UCSB added a walkon SG in Brad Lewis this year. I would not be surprised if the Gauchos used their last ship for 2010 on another gaurd. Regardless, Big West will be much better conference overall in the coming years.

Member Posts: 517 09/18/09 7:09 AM	Attending the North Carolina game at home probably pushed him over the top. Keep up the good scheduling and forget about the confidence it may affect come BW play. The scheduling has been crappy for years and what benefit has it gotten our schools confidence wise? Less exposure and mostly a one and done. The pros tremendously outweigh the one con.

That's surprising as they had Tiffin (verbal UC Davis) and Mulloy (verbal UCI) right in their back yard. Also in there is Antaga but he is likely a high major. Should be very exciting season as the talent in the BW is looking real good.

Mulloy played the 3 and 4 while Tiffin was always a low post guy. Regardless, the Gauchos missed out an it's UC Davis and UC Irvine's win.

So you are essentially agreeing with me regarding Mulloy - as a 6-6/200 3/4 he is undersized to play D1 post. We have several players that size to play the 3. As for Tiffin, I saw him described in early scouting site as a shooter. They turned out to be wrong, so I'll give you that. As for who won and who lost this year's recruiting contest, it's a little early for that, isn't it? Peace, bro. "It's not all beer and skittles."

Better put that flaky label on just about every teenager in America. The bottom line is Troy picked a school from the BW over a Conference we usually lose more battles then win.
