Among the highest picks, Joe Gardner hasn't signed yet and Joe Kelly signed within the last day or two.

Thanks FBF. I fully expect Gardner to sign. For SB, I am following Hollands(Minn), Gelinas (Pit) and Luvisi (Az).

For UCR - Uhl, Platt, Kelly, and Montgomery have signed.
Mackoul is already pitching for his New England summer league team, so it looks like he plans to come back. (RS Freshman, so he'll have 3 more chances to improve his draft position) Bargas and Applebee have not signed yet. We're likely to lose both based on where they got drafted, but it would sure help if at least one of them came back next year. |

Big West Update | #4 | ||

This will focus on non-SR's that were drafted so if you don't see a SR's name mentioned, that's why.

UCSB Update | #6 | ||
|
Cavan signed over the weekend.
Here is an update on Valaika from the presidiosports website - "Valaika was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds last week but turned down their first offer because the franchise wouldn't pay for his schooling. He said he is still hoping to work out a contract with the team". |

Update | #7 | ||
|
Here are the non SR's left who haven't signed yet.
Irvine - Hamilton signed. Bibona is the only Cardinal drafted between 11 and 20 who hasn't signed yet. No word on Stevenson or Hernandez but both are likely to be back. Fullerton - Fellhauer and Davis will sign. Morrison is up in the air. He might need to show improved control this summer to get the type of bonus he is looking for. Sounds like Witten will be back because he will be playing summer ball and looking to improve his stock. Cal Poly - Buschini and Smith signed. No word yet on Castner and Gentile. They will be summer "draft and follows", i.e. if they have big summers they might sign if the money is right. Long Beach - None left. Wilk and Ruiz signed. Riverside - Kelly, Montgomery and Bargas signed. Applebee is the only one left who hasn't signed yet and he probably will. I would imagine that Mackoul would return because he is only a redshirt FR (draft eligible due to age). UCSB - Gardner and Cavan signed. It looks like Valaika will sign. I would think that Hollands would be back unless he gets a big offer from Minn right before the deadline, depending on how he throws this summer. Northridge - Slover will sign. Pruitt signed. No word yet on McCarney. Davis - None left. Suiter and Kelly signed.

Update | #9 | ||
|
Here are the non SR's left who haven't signed yet. See posts above for the guys who signed earlier in June.
Irvine - Bibona is the only Cardinal drafted between 11 and 20 who hasn't signed yet and is still negotiating (see Irvine post above). No word on Stevenson or Hernandez but both are likely to be back. Fullerton - Fellhauer, Davis and Witten signed. Morrison is up in the air and might need to show improved control this summer to get the type of bonus he is looking for. Cal Poly - Castner signed. No word yet on Gentile, who will be a summer "draft and follow", i.e. if he has a big summer he might sign if the money is right. Riverside - Applebee signed. I would imagine that Mackoul would return because he is only a redshirt FR (draft eligible due to age). UCSB - Valaika is up in the air. He is looking for Cincy to pay for his final year of school so he can finish up his degree and the Reds are holding off thus far. I would think that Hollands would be back unless he gets a big offer from Minn right before the deadline, depending on how he throws this summer. Northridge - Slover will sign. No word yet on McCarney.

Re: Update | #10 | ||
|
Non-SR update.
Irvine - Bibona is still negotiating. Stevenson and Hernandez are both likely to be back. Fullerton - Morrison signed. All drafted players have signed. Cal Poly - All drafted players have signed except for Gentile, who will likely be back. Riverside - All four pitchers drafted between the 3rd and 13th rounds have signed. I would imagine that Mackoul would return because he is only a redshirt FR (draft eligible due to age). Long Beach - All four drafted players have signed and Krick signed as a free agent despite being a JR. UCSB - It is looking like Valaika and Hollands will be back. All other drafted players have signed. Northridge - I figured Slover would have signed by now as an 8th round pick but he is a Soph so he has additional leverage, which means a little more money. No word on McCarney so I guess he's coming back. Davis - All drafted players have signed.

Fullerton and Irvine are pretty much givens to make it into a regional next season and both will be strong contenders for national seeds.
Cal Poly has a very good nucleus coming back. They lost UTIL Buschini, SS Smith and CF Lee along with Massingham and Eskew in the bullpen but return everybody else. Long Beach has every single position player back except for 3B Krick and lost SP Wilk and closer Ruiz but have two SP's back who have been more upside than results thus far (Gagnon, Thompson). They should be much better given the track record of that program. Riverside returns every single position player except for CF Uhl. Their problem will be on the mound, where they only return SP Andriese and middle relievers Larkins and Emmons. If those three can step it up and some newcomers develop Riverside can be solid next season. To answer the "disappointing" question, the only part that was really disappointing were four RPI killing losses down the stretch to Davis, Bakersfield and UNLV. I just don't see it happening with UCSB, who will probably have a similar season next year. Brontsema's track record speaks for itself. UCSB only has C Mullins and LF/2B Terhune and most likely SS Valaika returning along with some part-timers. The pitching should be better after some major underachievement last year except for Gardner. If you want to talk about a disappointing team in the Big West last season based on expectations some people had going into the season, this was it. Pacific is going to have a solid lineup after losing only C Wideman, CF/DH Centanni and RF McKeever but getting back C Oliveira from a medical redshirt. The problem for the Tigers will be pitching. They lost Centanni, Akins, McCain and Holscher but whoever ends up on campus in the recruiting class can't produce worse results next year than the staff did last season. Northridge will probably be about the same. A solid nucleus coming back with guys like D'Anna and Pineda and recruiting finally focusing on HS players instead of the constant roster turnover before the transfer rule with an over reliance on JC players to fill in the holes on the roster. But, much like with Brontsema, the track record for Rousey also speaks for itself. Davis will be improved because they can't be worse and Peters knows what he's doing. They lost 3B Kelly, RF Scoma and 1B Hirneise and return everybody else. Similar pitching situation to Pacific with whoever is on the mound can't be worse than the results of last season although the pitching losses for Davis were minimal. |

Draft Update | #13 | ||
|
Non-SR update. Comments on recruits will be limited to players drafted in first 30 rounds or so. Anybody above that would have already signed
and is likely to end up campus.
Irvine - It is looking like Bibona will be coming back. He is one of only two Cardinals draft picks between the 2nd and 38th rounds who haven't signed. Stevenson and Hernandez are both likely to be back. Two highest drafted recruits (LHP's Strong - 17 and Wright - 29) look like they will end up on campus. Fullerton - All drafted players have signed. Five highest drafted recruits (Hobgood - 1, Skaggs - supplemental, Meyer - 3, Hatton - 4, Bellatti - 12) have signed or will sign. RHP Floro - 20 could go down to the wire. C Escalante - 28 is likely to end up on campus. Cal Poly - All drafted players have signed except for Gentile, who will likely be back. LHP Erlin - 3 will sign (was supposed to already have). OF Haniger - 31 is likely to end up on campus. Riverside - All four pitchers drafted between the 3rd and 13th rounds have signed. I would imagine that Mackoul would return because he is only a redshirt FR (draft eligible due to age). RHP Heienreich - 4 signed. Long Beach - All four drafted players have signed and Krick signed as a free agent despite being a JR. Three highest drafted recruits signed (Wallach - 3, Singleton - 8 and Gerritse - 12). UCSB - It is looking like Valaika and Hollands will be back. All other drafted players have signed. Northridge - Slover signed this week. No word on McCarney so I guess he's coming back. Davis - All drafted players have signed.

Final Update | #15 | ||
|
Non-SR update. Comments on recruits will be limited to players drafted in first 30 rounds or so.
Irvine - Bibona didn't sign. He is one of only two Cardinals draft picks in the first 38 rounds who didn't sign. Stevenson and Hernandez are both coming back. 17th round pick LHP Strong signed. 28th round pick RHP Hooper didn't sign. 29th round pick Wright didn't sign but will be a medical redshirt due to TJ surgery. Fullerton - All drafted players have signed. Five highest drafted recruits (Hobgood - 1, Skaggs - supplemental, Meyer - 3, Hatton - 4, Bellatti - 12) have signed. 20th round pick RHP Floro and 28th round pick C Escalante didn't sign. Cal Poly - All drafted players have signed except for Gentile, who will be coming back. 3rd round pick LHP Erlin signed. 31st round pick OF Haniger didn't sign. Riverside - All four pitchers drafted between the 3rd and 13th rounds have signed. 20th round pick redshirt FR LHP Mackoul didn't sign. 4th round pick RHP Heienreich signed. Long Beach - All four drafted players have signed and Krick signed as a free agent despite being a JR. Three highest drafted recruits signed (Wallach - 3, Singleton - 8 and Gerritse - 12). Interesting note to come out of yesterday was Toronto's 2nd round pick (#68 overall) Canadian HS LHP Jake Eliopoulos will either be going to a JC or to Long Beach. UCSB - Valaika and Hollands didn't sign. All other drafted players have signed. Northridge - Slover signed. McCarney will be coming back. Davis - All drafted players have signed.
