That's great.
As a big Giants fan, I have been keeping my eye on Lowenstein and his progress up the organizational ladder. I would love to see him get a cup of coffee with the Giants at some point. While he does not appear to have a major league ready bat by any stretch, Lowenstein would not embarrass himself defensively. Unfortunately, the Giants appear to have the position of catch locked up for the future with Buster Posey climbing the ranks. Not only that, but they drafted a catcher with their second round pick. Either way, I would love to see two of my main sporting loves, UCI and the Giants, intersect. D |

His only question mark is his bat. My hunch is they brought him up to help develop the pitchers. They aren't so worried about his bat since they are more
concerned about developing pitchers. Lowie will need to improve his hitting by leaps and bounds to get to the major leagues. I am hoping he plays on the team
I can't stand some day soon.
Go Dodgers!! |

SF DFA'd Holm, the backup to Molina for the MLB team the other day. Pablo Sandoval is the backup for now. Holm can't be sent to AAA
Fresno until he clears waivers in a couple of days and it's very doubtful somebody would claim him.
SF's AA team is in Conn. If there was an injury at Fresno and they needed somebody ASAP for a few days, it would be easier for them to move somebody over from A San Jose. Another factor is their catching depth chart. They have Buster Posey at San Jose and they aren't ready to move him yet and when they do, it will be to AA. They also have one of their multiple 1st round picks from '07 (Jackson Williams) at AA and they don't want to rush him to AAA. The other two C's that were at Conn are on the 7 day DL or were demoted to low A and both of those moves happened recently. If they wanted to shift somebody over to Fresno to have a backup there on a temporary basis, it makes sense in this situation to move somebody over from San Jose. Lowenstein will probably go back to San Jose when Holm clears waivers.

Oh sure FBF, dash our hopes and burst our bubble. If nothing else, he can tell his grandkids that he played AAA ball, and he'll have the baseball-reference data to
prove it.

The Giants also took a HS catcher with their 2nd round pick this year. They've got a bunch of C's in that pipeline with the guys at
Fresno keeping the spot warm until Williams and/or Posey get promoted.

Helm cleared waivers after being DFA'd by the Giants and was sent down to Fresno over the weekend. Lowenstein got bumped back down to San
Jose.
