Was Rousey the coach when you guys won the conference in '04? I notice pretty much non-stop complaints about his incompetence and wondered what the story
is behind it.

Rousey took over the next season and CSUN has been a cellar dweller ever since, while Batesole led the Bulldogs to a CWS championship last year. Hence the bitterness.

outlining all the reasons Rousey should be fired. I mean, we've got about 10 fewer BW wins since he arrived than UOP. The guy isn't even interested
enough in trying to turn things around to bring in new assistant coaches. He's had Kertenian and McKinley since he became head coach and won't turn the
page despite our horrendous recruiting. These guys can't evaluate talent at all.
Rousey was the pitching coach in 2001 and 2002, becoming the only one to last more than one season under Batesole either here or in Fresno. His best recruit at Long Beach, Daniel Choi was actually a Northridge signee after an All-City career at Fairfax High who couldn't handle Kernen, and ended up leaving prior to his first season, saying "not everyone was cut out to be a Matador". The review process here is basically done by faculty reps with no interest in W-L record. They give him good marks for team gpa and fundraising, as well as something called being a "good role model", thus his continued stay here. They did finally stop rolling over his contract, and he found himself at the end of his current deal when this season ended. But unless the review criteria change, we're stuck with the guy. And between the impressive raises he's getting, and his lucrative baseball camps, he makes too much money to resign even if he doesn't improve on his 31-101 Big West record. |

Sounds similar to the situation with the football coach at North Texas and his sterling 3-21 record (2 of those wins coming against 1-aa teams). The guy
can't coach his way out of a paper bag, refuses to adapt to the college game, and still tries to ride on his high school laurels, but he's pulling in a
handsome paycheck, he says grace with the family at the dinner table, and he kicked a few kids off the team for smoking pot. He's a stand up guy, and
he's gonna' be around for a good long time.
*It's annoying as hell to go to football games with this guy coaching because of the legions of fans from Southlake Carroll (Think Bishop Amat) who worship the ground this guy walks on and show up to every UNT football game. God help you if you try to criticize the chosen one (even at conversational levels) amongst these kool-aid drinking disciples. |
