Fullerton wins 11-2 and outscore Louisville 23-2 during the two games. Although Louisville was one of the weaker SR teams, congratulations on making it to
Omaha!!

Congrats to CSF AD Brian Quinn for paving an EASY road to Omaha and at the expense of screwing the team that beat out CSF in conference too.

Fireduppp,
Stop the hating. Yes, Irvine had a harder route but Virginia beat them twice in Irvine and were the better team. As much as people would like to complain, Fullerton should have been a higher seed with a higher RPI and SOS. Irvine was lucky to get a national seed with the soft schedule. The only reason why Irvine was in the top 10 in RPI early in the season was because Hawaii was a surprisingly better team but faded so much that they didnt even make the regional. Irvine had a fantastic year and I thought they would make a run to Omaha. Unfortunately they ran into a hotter team in ACC champs, Virginia. That said better luck next year and stop whining. |

The fact is, Quinn did watch out for his home-boys again and allowed Irvine to have the toughest Regional on paper just as he allowed with LB last year. But,
that's secondary to the need that all 64 teams have which is to just beat whomever they are facing. LB last year and Irvine and CP this year didn't do
that while Fullerton emphatically did. Nothing but the best to Fullerton, win it all again.

My best regards to the Fullerton players, and only its players. As for Midnight Express $errano, good for you in beating up on a bunch of little league teams.
Let's see how you handle LSU next weekend. Afterward, perhaps you can call up your alma mater and see about getting an honorary degree in human
management and bracket manipulation.
And yes Fullerton won, Irvine didn't. I make no excuses for Irvine's loss, but neither do I hang my head, and I most certainly don't sway my allegience to a coaching staff that has demonstrated no loyalty of its own. |

CSF has had some very tough regionals and SR in the past. 2000 or 2001 USC and LMU were in the regional. ASU has been in the CSF regional 2 or 3 times. In
2005 they beat CSF in the SR, at CSF. So it is not like CSF has had cakewalks into the CWS. Where was LB this year? Oh that's right, sitting at home
watching CSF going to another CWS. All you crybaby Irwhine fans, except Townkie, a special present.

dahozzman wrote:In fairness to Fireduppp, he didn't exactly invent the idea that the Irvine regional was the "bracket of death." From the commentators on ESPN, to the various on-line experts, that was considered the toughest bracket. And the prevailing opinion there was not that the seed had to do with RPI or a weak OOC schedule, but putting together a compelling package for TV. As far as I'm concerned, what's done is done, but don't pretend that Fireduppp's position is completely bogus. That said, here's to CSUF winning another title.

I'll bet you're racking your brain, trying to figure out how to bracket Fullerton against Cal State Bakersfield at the College World Series. Tell your
buddies on the committee that they've exposed themselves for being the cronies that they are. Serrano has a great program, and he doesn't need you
greasing the wheel for him.

I guess I'd be bitter if Brontsema was the head coach at my school and could only get into a regional twice in sixteen years and if you have
to use the bathroom at a home game it's either find a bush or a portapottie.

Bracket of Death | #13 | ||

Let me preface this with a couple acknowledgements; Fullerton has by far the most accomplished baseball program in the BW, and arguably in the Country. Their
RPI earned them the 2 seed and the easier path. I would much rather hear the bitching about a BW team getting an easy road than listen to all of us bitching
about all the BW teams getting screwed again while the SEC schools get easy paths to the WS.
Having said that, UCI deserved far better than the bracket they were saddled with. Virginia is the #5 RPI and #7 ISR (Boyds World) , they clearly should have been a 1 seed somewhere, not lumped into the bracket as the 2 seed in the #1 ranked team in the Nation. Show me a better 3 seed anywhere in the country than SDSU. UCI got screwed, as did LB last year. This is not crying, it is a statement of fact. But sometimes life aint fair, and you have to play the hand you are dealt, neither UCI this season, or LBS last year were able to do that successfully, Fullerton was able to do this. So congrats to them, win it all for the BW, I will be rooting for you, but please dont pretend that UCI should hang their heads, or that they have no right to be pissed. |

You're absolutely right on all counts. Send us Serrano and Quinn and watch US go to Omaha! Until then, we Gaucho baseball fans have nothing to talk about
this time of year but how cronyism affects sports... that and how our bladders are damaged from having to hold it for so long. But at least we have one thing
to keep us warm at night (besides our faulty bladders) this time of year: it's that one our UC rivals that got screwed, not us.

ZSparky wrote: Good post. Fresno St last year and Virginia this year, won those two tough regionals. UCI and LB has their chances but didn't do it. And they had home field. If UCI was really the #1 team in the nation, it shouldn't matter who they played. CSF in the past has won some tough regionals, both at home and on the road. Notice UCI has finished worse each year. 07 CWS. 08 lost in SR. 09 lost in Regional. Is that a trend?

Dodger Soul, I've got no problem with him calling out our baseball program and university in such harsh terms. We've been doing it ourselves all
season.
If we're gonna be honest here, then let's be brutally honest ... (1) Fullerton, a great program with a great team this year, was given a paved road to Omaha by the Quinn Committee. (2) Irvine, an up-and-coming program with a great team this year, was given a rough road to Omaha despite having won Fullerton's league by a convincing margin. (3) Until UCSB upgrades the structure of its baseball program, let alone its so-called stadium, it'll never be in the same league as those other two schools. Maybe we should see if Bakersfield wants to form a baseball conference with us, since we play them so many damned times.
