Cal Poly falls one short, 10-9 |

Mustangs score 7 in the 9th, but Gentile caught looking with tieing and winning runs in scoring position. He'd earlier left the bases loaded.

This is brutal. They lose to Oral Roberts and Kent State. The false perception is that the Big West is a two-team conference, Irvine and Fullerton, especially
now with Long Beach down, and this seems to validate that. Thanks a lot.

the Golden Flashes did it by committee. It's not disgrace to get shut down by the #2 pitcher on the staff of someone from the MAC, but Kent St used 4
pitchers over the first 7 innings, and held the Mustangs to one run.

Cute. This coming from a guy whose team killed the conference's RPI by losing to the likes of Cal State Bakersfield.

I sure have, Musty ... Fact was, we didn't deserve to represent in the Regionals. Your team did. And then your team choked against inferior competition.
That hurts, because if UCSB ever does have a Regional-worthy team - emphasis on the word "if" - we still may not get a bid because of Poly's
two-and-out this week. If the third or fourth place teams in the Big West aren't named Fullerton, Irvine or Long Beach, they're going to find it pretty
tough to get a Regional bid now.

Poly should have done better. However Oral Roberts and Kent State are not bad teams. 2 and out sucks but in the regionals pitching really matters and Poly
was the weakest of the group. I was hoping that their offense would make up for it but the loss of Jensen really hurt the team. The Mustangs will still field
another strong team next season.
As for SB, I think we were one pitcher away from making noise. You have Ford regain his 2008 form or having Joyce eligible to pitch, we easily win 4-5 more games and gets us into a regional. As for us not getting more team into the regionals, BW got 4 teams into the regionals in 2007 and 2008. If the BW teams continue to improve scheduling OOC and win those games, we will continue to have 3-4 teams in the playoffs no matter what Poly did. |

BTW, Musty, you need to get your facts straight and learn a little about college baseball. Having a RPI of 86 is not killing the conference RPI. We had the
5th best RPI in the conference and having an RPI below 100 really helps. As for losing to Bakersfield, I would say going 3-1 against them is not the worst
thing in the world.

Ford has already decided to leave UCSB, Dodger Soul ... As has Joe Gardner, which I think you already new. It was in Saturday's News-Press.
