LB BB	Anticipated BWC standings for the 2010 season		Lead	[-]

Member Posts: 106 05/29/09 2:13 PM	I think ya got it exactly right. Long Beach is the deepest team by far in the league! UCR will have the best starting 5, but the bench is not as good as Long Beach. I think UCR big 5 will be -Votteto at center 6'9'' 260 pounds, Larry G. at the 4-6'6" 210, Austin at the 3-6'7" 210, Dwight Gordon at the 2, 6'2" (could be cunningham)and Borum at the point guard 6' even. The thing about UCR is that most of these guys are seniors and austin is a redshirt junior. This is a much better team than last year (more athletic)...

Member Posts: 281 05/29/09 3:43 PM	I agree that UCR & LBS will be the favorites in the league, with SB knocking on the door. Who wins out will depend on whose new guys are better. LB loses Morris, Freeman and Clady from the leagues 2nd place team, but they played much of the season without Morris anyway. But who will fill that gap? Will Tristan Wilson be the dominant scorer he is expected to be? Can Chang and Richardson fill the empty space in the paint? How about UCR, Will Larry G. be all he is hoped to be? We know these guys can play d, but can they score? Can the incoming players make up for the loss of Soto and Scott? Soto may not have scored alot, but he was solid on defense. Throw SB into the mix and you can ask for all 3 teams, Whose young players will be able to make that jump to the next level? Anderson, Robinson and Ware played huge roles for the Niners, Nunnaly, Brew and Somigy (sp?) really came on strong at the end of the season. Venetto and Austin were really good for UCR, Can they step up? Throw in the always question about health, if someone key goes down is there someone who can fill the gap? If I had to guess, I would say this is a pretty good stab at who the league leaders will be, but remember that LB and UCRv were picked at the bottom of the league last season, and I can promise you with all of the new guys coming in at Fullerton, Northridge and UCI that we will see some youngsters who make an impact and some who were expected to lead wont be ready for that roll. That is why I love college BB, can't wait to see how it works out.

Member Posts: 170 05/29/09 7:11 PM	Long Beach may have the highest rated recruiting class, but the other BWC members are solid, with the exception of Poly. I expect next year to be very competitive like last year with the top 8 teams able to win on any night. LB and UCR will be right in at the top, but the rest recruited good players and will not be push-overs. Much depends on how well each team meshs together - chemistry and injuries TBD. Once again - parity. Take just CSF for example, they recruited some very good players but they need to come together as a team, and that may happen with Akognon gone. They need to rely on each other, rather than one man. Same team builing situation for CSUN, UCD, UCSB and UOP. UCI is a question mark because I don't know enough about their recruits, but they got a keeper in Wilder. What we saw last year was an elevation in coaching talent and people like Williams, Douglas, Bromley and to some degree Burton get out -coached by their counterparts. If the conference can keep recruiting good players and getting good coachs we should go up a notch or two in the national rankings. I think next season is going to be exciting, again.

They finished tied for 4th last season, and they didn't lose too much. They return their two leading scorers, who are also the two all BWC reps on the team (Wise and Hunter). They don't need too much out of their incoming players to get back to where they were last season.

I know I am asking a lot, but with our last freshmen class last year and this incoming class,coupled with being one Hail Mary shot away from the title this year after being picked at/near the bottom......Wait a minute, I don't think I am asking a lot. BTW when was the last time a team won the BW and went dancing 3 years straight. Was it UOP... UNLV???

Member Posts: 107 05/30/09 11:43 AM	matagrad makes a good point about borum & cunninham. I wish that borum can be both a playmaker and a scorer. One thing for certain according to sources - Larry G. may be a 1st team Big west type a player with great defensive skills and he's Very athletic... Remember he is a red shirt senior, so he's ready to play. The only mystery in the line up is dwight gordon who scored 40 in his last college game... I still like SB & Davis, because I think UCI lost more than they gained this offseason. Fullerton & Northridge are reloading so it's hard to know what to expect from them... Sc tidbit-austin returns to the galen center to play sc in the 2nd game of the season...

OK, he was only 6-5 and played primarily in the post last year, and that didn't seem to slow him down. The question remains, why will he get bigger bodies put on him this year?

It indicates nothing of their ability to defend against a 6'5" player who is quicker and stronger with high levels of basketball intelligence and instinct.

Member Posts: 172 05/31/09 2:40 PM	Becasue Eric is 6'5" and weighs about 230-35. The guys coming in next years to various programs are taller, 6' 8-10", and heavier, 240-60. Eric has a big lower body but not a big upper body. I thnk he'll do OK, but he will not tear up the conference.

There are big recruits coming in, but there are several notable big men leaving the conference too - Devine, Townsend, Shelton, A. Brown. Some of these incoming guys are bigger... but of course, they'll actually need to pan out on the court to matter. Until I see otherwise, I'm not sure that the BWC is going to be much bigger in 09-10.

Member Posts: 15 06/01/09 1:35 PM	As a mustang fan... I have been disappointed in the quality of players we have recruited this year. We were in a great position to get a great new coach and utilize 5 scholarships. I was hoping for a Munson and Wooldridge movement up here on the Central Coast. However, I feel i might be left greatly disappointed. Most teams will look to shut down Keeler and Lewis... as for now thats all we have. Hanson should be an up and comer, but I feel that he might only be as good as his brother. Our team will be rather young, with a group of guys who have no business on a D1 squad IMO. The loss of Shelton might be felt for awhile. We brought in a kid who went up to 320 in order to play O-line on a JC football squad, and has now weighed in at about 270. He played D2 JUCO ball AZ. Yikes! We brought in a skinny kid that was mainly getting looks by D2 schools, but we gave him a full ride. Maybe our best recruit is a 6' 10 kid from WA. Has been in and out of the top 25 of best players in the state. But hes not an inside presence, hes more of a tall mid-range jumper 3 pt kind of player. We also have the 1 hold over recruit that signed early under Broms... kid went from being the best kid on his team in Sacto... to being a guy who could never see the court at the Prep school he attended in the middle the season. Roumor has it we are trying to go international. I think the tough defensive presense most teams in the BW employs mainly LBS and CSUN will give us fits and could look like a lay up drill. New coach promised a Final 4 journey... but will it ever happen? Guess it might be an easy 180gs a year to make while living in beautiful San Luis Obispo * remember, my opinions are my own, and thats what they are OPINIONS *
