Frank Burlison reported this in the LBPT the other day
"Big West Conference commissioner Dennis Farrell said Monday that the men's and women's basketball head coaches recommended in their spring
meeting last week that the Big West Tournament be expanded to include all nine teams. In the current format, the ninth-place finisher stays home. If the
coaches have their way, next March the eighth and ninth finishers would play on Tuesday night, with the winner taking on the No.5 seed the next day, when the
Nos. 6 and 7 seeds would also play. The Wednesday winners would play the Nos. 3 and 4 seeds on Thursday, with those survivors taking on the Nos. 1 and 2 seeds
on Friday. The championship - and NCAA tourney bid-deciding - game will be Saturday. The conference holds its Council meetings (with three representatives from
each institution, two of those holding votes) May 4-6, with the Board of Directors (presidents) meeting on May 11. Simple voting majorities of each of those
groups are needed for the "8 vs. 9 games" to be ratified. "And I really don't have any idea (how the voting will go)," Farrell said.
"
I'm trying to have a strong feeling one way or another about this, but since we already have 8 teams there, my feeling is "whatever".
