It is likely that our very weak OOC schedule will inflate our record. Perhaps the administration is thinking that the artificially inflated record will attract the casual followers, which I would assume is consistuted primarily by students. We shall see.

As far as next year, I do think we have a shot. DeCasas leaving does not help at all, but we do have a shot. Even better than next year may be the year after. That year, we will have Rembert, Losonsky, Simek, and Moore as...

Maybe the administration thinks this is our year, so they needed to make these changes (fingers crossed). As for the decline in the conference, it really shouldn't matter the quality of the other teams if we get the job done. Marketing to the students is a must. How about some promotions? Yes, it's a form of bribery. But, we need the students engaged in our teams. See the various promotions the minor league baseball teams use. We don't need to re-invent the wheeel here....

It does seem strange that the administration has picked this time to make these sorts of changes. Barring unforeseen circumstances, I don't see an overflowing student section being one of our problems this year. I would obviously love to be wrong.

If UCI would consistently win 20 games - be ranked in the AP Top 25 then there will be no empty seats. We haven't even gone to the tourney! No wonder students are apathetic.

The student section was never the entire opposite side. It's probably how it should be. At least that's how it's at at Duke, UCSB, Gozaga, etc.. This may be the right year to make it like that because there will probably be few season ticket holders to move (maybe 100-150 seats at most). We will see if I get comparable tix, which I doubt. Then, when the program draws more, there will not be as much drama.

As far as the Big West, it use to be the 2nd best...

The far side was to be for the students when the Bren was opened in the 80's. As a graduate of that era, the enrollment my senior year was about 9500. It's now almost 30,000. Yet, the number of students attending the events is far worse. Why? Granted, the school's demograghics are such that sports isn't a priority. But, with the more than 300% increase in enrollment, the statistical probability that the attendance would be worse now than before fails logic. Again, this...

Funny how they shift things around like that when attendance has been pretty static ever since the Bren opened. I'm pretty sure that entire side was for students when I was in school. I don't know what difference it'll make. Wherever the student section is, I can't imagine that the student body has changed significantly to the pro sports side from my time, but I bet the steps to the library are crowded as ever on a Friday night, eh?

sometimes because I only buy 2 season tickets and tend to bring my kids. Or, I sit there to bs with others while the game is going on. But, I do like my seats where they are at and will be dissapointed in my view is not as good. The thing about sitting opposite the coaches and players bench is your view is not obstructed when they stand.

Anyway, if the students actually fill up that entire side (which I tend to doubt for many of the games), it will be worth the chance.

If the AD is doing this to get more students into the games, then it's about freaking time! The lack of students at all UCI sporting events is simply pathetic and inexcuseable. We need their presence and enthusiasm to truly have home advantage. What is really sad is that none will travel to away games. Look at the BWC tourney at the ACC. I received a call today from the athletic department giving me a head's up that some of the season tickets are going to be changed so that there is more room for students to have better seats.
