Brad Evans has been called up to the US Men's National soccer team for the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup! He should get his first cap with the senior national
team. He was on the roster for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2005 and played in one match, I believe. The US is bringing its "B" team but this is
big for Evans nonetheless.

I think Evans starts vs. Panama, even if he doesn't he could very well come in as a sub. The US has a thin roster now that Cherundolo, Davies, Feilhaber,
etc. have gone back to their club teams in Europe. I think Mexico now has to be the favorite to win the tournament. I don't understand why this tournament
is even taking place. We just had a Gold Cup in 2007, one that was meaningful.

On a side note, does anybody know where Matt Murphy is playing these days? I checked all...

Steve Cherundulo, who was Evans prime competition at right back for the Gold Cup, has left the team to return to train with his European team. As a result,
the chances of seeing Evans receive additional playing time (against better teams) has gone up significantly. Keep your fingers crossed!

Evans is in a tough spot. He is being played out of position at right back because it is an area of relative need for the US Men's National Team at the
time. Unfortunately, he is not very good at all at that position. On the other hand, Evans' natural position of defensive midfielder is perhaps the
position where the US has more depth than anywhere else (Bradley, Edu, Clark, and the incoming Jones.)

Anyway, as you said, I also expect this to be his last game in a while,...

Evans started and played the full match versus Haiti. Evans played right back, he did not look impressive but neither did his teammates on the back line. Last
night's game might be Evans' last game in a while with the USMNT.

And to anyone who missed it, Brad Evans DID make it into the game, getting his first cap with the US national team. He came in in the 63rd minute.... and
we'll just gloss over the fact that he looked nervous and played scared. A great day in UCI soccer history, nonetheless.

The game is on tonight at 6:00 on Fox Soccer Channel. The conventional thinking is that tonight might be Evans' best chance to get in to a game, given
that they are playing in Seattle, where he plays for the Sounders. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

This is fantastic news for Brad Evans. He's been doing a good job in the MLS ever since he was drafted by the Crew (and now with the Sounders).

Its a good feeling to finally see an Eater do it big time! And like the previous post mentioned this is a great opportunity not just for Evans but all these
players to see what they can do as this Gold Cup is truly an Audition to see who can get that callup for the Men's team in the future (WC 2010 and
onwards).

This is really a perfect time for the Gold Cup. With WC qualifying and the Confederations Cup, the "A" team is getting plenty of action right now. And since this year's Gold Cup doesn't get us anything (like a bid in the Confederations Cup,
for example, which the 2007 win did), it makes for an excellent chance to get the kids some playing time. Also, it allows them to get Caps in a full
international for some youngsters to make...

That is awesome. I remember indicating on this board in the past year that I didn't think he ever had a chance at a National Team call-up, and I am very
pleased to be wrong. I watch all the US Men's National Team games, so I am excited to see an Anteater on the squad.

Granted this a "B-team" at best, but it would appear that the makeup of the Gold Cup roster is designed to see what our young kids can do. This is
the first step. A good performance here may lead...
