A couple UCR players were ranked as top 10 prospects in their respective summer leagues by Baseball America. Rusty McNamara was also named Manager of the Year in the Northwoods League if you haven't checked out the UCR web site.

Sunday game at Stanford cancelled and will not be rescheduled. That said, a nice way to open up the new season -- winning a road series vs. a Pac - 10 team that made NCAA playoffs last year. Keep it going on Wednesday at UCLA.

So far 1-1 against Cal with a second game of doubleheader underway on Saturday afternoon. Tough loss Friday as Cal scored 4 runs in 7th to erase a 2 run UCR lead. First game Saturday, starting pitching solid with Uhl doing a good job at top of lineup. Smith has got a young team; show it some support in 2009.

UCR Head Volleyball Coach Sue Gozansky Announces Her Retirement

(November 24, 2008) - UC Riverside Head Volleyball Coach Sue Gozansky announced her retirement today following the completion of her 39th season at the helm of the Highlanders volleyball program. She leaves with a career record of 680-519-16. A national search to replace Gozansky will begin immediately.

For those who have been on here awhile, I just read on other boards about the passing of Mary Ann Shappi, mother of former Highlander pitcher A.J. Shappi. Mary Ann was a frequent poster to this board (highlander mom) when A.J. played at UCR back in 2002-2004. She was a strong supporter of UCR baseball and a very supportive parent. My son was a teammate of A J in 2004; A.J., Mary Ann and Marv were always accommodating and welcoming to newcomers in the program. My thoughts and prayers go...

Interesting story: Bigler was really struggling in his 2nd year of high A ball, hitting .188, until he gets a surprise call up all the way to AAA Omaha to fill in for some injuries.
Once there he starts going crazy, batting .361 as of tonight's game, while playing at Rosenblatt in front of crowds of 6,000.
